Čáslav (Kutnohorsko) - Čáslav started to build two new residential buildings at the former Prokop Holý barracks at the end of last year, and will soon begin construction of two more buildings. The area is gradually expected to transform into a new urban district with up to 350 apartments, said deputy mayor Jaromír Strnad to ČTK.

"A selection process for the contractor for the other two buildings has already taken place. Therefore, four residential buildings will soon be under construction at the same time. In the first phase, about 105 to 110 apartments will be created there, some of which should be completed by the end of 2010, and the rest by mid-2011," he added. The city has already offered apartments in the two buildings for sale to citizens for personal ownership. Interested parties will now be making deposits, and the remainder will be repaid over 20 years in the form of rent. Those who have cash can pay off the apartment immediately, Strnad added. A similar process is being used to fill the third building, and about 45 rental apartments should be created in the fourth.
The costs for the construction of the four residential buildings are around 220 million crowns and the city is covering them from its own resources. Among other things, it wants to use funds from the sale of former military apartments, which the army transferred to it last year, and from the upcoming further privatization of the municipal housing fund.
Čáslav has already invested tens of millions of crowns into the reconstruction of former military facilities. Apartments and offices were created in the former Žižkov barracks, which also housed a basic art school, part of the city museum, and a children’s house. The army also transferred one of the Jiří z Poděbrady barracks buildings to the city. Originally, the city wanted to relocate the town hall there. However, the repair costs were high, so it will instead be transformed into a residential building.
