Brno - The cable car to the hill by Brno Castle Špilberk could start on Údolní Street. This variant was proposed as one of the possibilities by experts involved in the project. Originally, Husova Street was considered as the boarding point. Although it is located right in the center, the cable car would cross over the already restored part of the park and a total of eight paths on its way from there. Therefore, technically, the route from Údolní Street is more advantageous, said the mayor's deputy Daniel Rychnovský (KDU-ČSL) today to journalists.

According to Rychnovský, the lower station of the cable car could be in the gap between the Office of the Public Defender of Rights and the nearby residential buildings on Údolní Street. The advantage is that the part of the park surrounding Špilberk Castle has not yet been revitalized at this location, so construction would not disturb the already landscaped greenery and paths. "The only downside is that it is not directly in the city center, so people would have to walk there. But it can be accessed up the slope, not directly along the busy Údolní," the deputy said.
The cable car is expected to increase the number of tourists at Špilberk Castle and in its museum exhibitions. Although the castle is located in the middle of Brno, it is on a hill, which, according to city representatives, deters many tourists. This is especially true for older people and those with disabilities. The cable car is intended to facilitate access for them.
According to Rychnovský, architects have estimated the cost of construction at 30 to 40 million crowns. The city has no idea yet about the operator. It could either be the transport company or an external firm.
However, before the future cable car is launched, according to the deputy, microbuses from the transport company could transport tourists to the castle. "We will discuss whether we can find a grant for operation," Rychnovský stated. He reportedly has a positive response from the director of the transport company Bedřich Prokeš regarding the plan. The company is said to be capable of operating any means of transport, except for trains and carousels.
