Brno - Brno is preparing a major reconstruction of the main opera and ballet stage - Janáček Theatre. Builders are expected to repair the interior spaces of the stage, replace electrical installations, and build an underground parking lot beneath the neglected park by the theatre. This was stated today by Brno councilor Jan Holík (KDU-ČSL) to journalists. Preparations for the reconstruction and construction are now underway at the city hall for a public tender. The tender should result in a designer who will prepare the documentation for the building permit, as well as a contractor for the construction. The members of the investment commission currently have the material available, and the Brno council will discuss it afterward. According to Holík, the total investment costs for the repair of the theatre and the construction of the parking lot are estimated at 1.2 billion Czech koruna. This year, the budget for Brno has allocated 111 million koruna for investments in Janáček Theatre. The Janáček Theatre building was constructed between 1960 and 1965. The previous leadership of Brno, led by ODS, already pointed out that the stage was built from very poor quality materials, and thus the hall, including the auditorium and stage, as well as the roof, urgently needs repair. In planning the theatre's reconstruction, Brno politicians will have to decide whether the stage will be modified to also serve for symphonic concerts. In that case, a multifunctional hall, so-called Janáček Cultural Center, would probably not be built in Brno. Brno Philharmonic has been striving for its construction for several years. The new leadership of Brno has temporarily postponed the project for the construction of the center; the councilors canceled the tender for the contractor of the documentation for the zoning procedure and intend to announce it again. According to Deputy Mayor Ladislav Macek, few companies have applied.
