Brno – Brno plans to build a building with cooperative apartments on the brownfield of the former Dřevopodnik between Křenová, Rumiště, and Mlýnská streets. At the same time, it will expand two existing apartment buildings. There will be approximately 250 new apartments, with the investment being around one billion. The city hall announced this in a press release.

"The new building will stand on the future Brněnská street, and although it may not seem so now, it will be a very good location. At the same time, we want to utilize the fact that we own two apartment buildings in the area – Rumiště 7 and 11. There is a possibility of adding additional floors to them. This would result in about ten more rental apartments," said Jiří Oliva (ČSSD), the Deputy for Housing. The three city apartment buildings would thus create a closed block with an internal courtyard between the current Rumiště street on one side and the newly created Brněnská street.

Brno is now looking for a designer to design the building and coordinate the work with the construction of Brněnská street and the restoration of the Ponávka stream. Currently, the brownfield is occupied by the former Dřevopodnik buildings, which the city must first demolish. So far, hydrogeological and engineering-geological surveys, including probing, have been conducted. In addition to these materials, the designer will have access to the volumetric study of the site and the technical study of the planned Brněnská street.

Costs are estimated to reach approximately one billion korunas. The city aims to have the project completed by 2024. Demolition work will follow, and construction is expected to begin, with completion possible in 2027.
