Beroun

Beroun - In Beroun, the long-planned relocation of the bus station, funded by the Swiss-Czech cooperation program, will begin. The construction contract was won by the company Strabag with a bid of 46 million crowns. This is 17 million crowns less than the costs estimated in the project documentation. The town hall has already started negotiations with the grant provider about using the saved amount for the expansion and enrichment of the project, said Mayor Šárka Endrlová (Independent Beroun Residents) to journalists.

The aim is to move the bus station closer to the train station and create an integrated transport hub for Beroun and its surroundings, serving about 40,000 residents. The mayor reminded that the current distance between the train and bus stations is about 1.3 kilometers as the crow flies, but around 3.5 kilometers by road. The transfer for passengers should be much easier and more comfortable in the future.
The company takes over the construction site this month, but first, it will be necessary to build utility and cable relocations. The actual construction work will not begin until spring. The start of construction for the new roundabout at Tyršova, modifications in U Nádraží street, and a new access road are planned for April. "Everything must be completed by the middle of 2016," the mayor stated. By that date, the construction must also be approved, put into operation, and the entire project settled, according to her.
Ten companies participated in the tender. "The project documentation for the relocation of the station was created many years ago. At that time, the situation in construction was completely different, and that positively reflected in the bids from construction companies," said Dana Vilhelmová, head of the Department of Urban Planning and Regional Development. According to her, it is realistic that the Swiss side will leave the remaining amount to Beroun. However, the money must be used in a way that fulfills the goals of the original project.
As part of the project expansion, the city proposed to acquire an outdoor electronic board and build shelters for all three platforms, including benches - originally, only one shelter was planned. It also wants another part of the sum to be used for the construction of a new access road, including a separate cycle path to the Na Podole area. Another part could be used for the revitalization of the current space of the bus station at Závodí.
