PLZEŇ - The Institute of Art and Design of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is planning to build a new building in the Borská Pole area. If everything goes according to plan, the building could be completed in December 2007. The modern structure will feature large studios. The institute's secretary, Jitka Vojtěchová, said this to ČTK today.

The institute separated from the Faculty of Education two years ago and has approximately 230 students. It is temporarily located in the building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Applied Sciences. It is anticipated that it will grow. In the future, it is likely to become a separate eighth faculty of the university. "We will therefore need larger and better spaces," said the secretary.
The project for the building is currently being prepared. According to it, the building should be three stories high and largely glass-fronted. The ground floor will have a large space that can be divided as needed with sliding doors. It is intended to serve as both a studio and an exhibition hall.
The institute teaches five bachelor's programs and is preparing three additional master's programs and one bachelor's program.
The University of West Bohemia has seven faculties. Approximately 16,500 students study there.
