Ústí nad Labem - The modification of the rear tract of Masarykova Street in Ústí nad Labem will cost up to 170 million crowns. Ivo Kraml, the architect who prepared the study, told ČTK. According to councilor Pavel Tošovský (ind.), it will be done in several phases, for which the local government wants to obtain a subsidy.

The public has already had the opportunity to express its opinion on the modifications twice. One of the most frequent questions from locals concerned parking. "We are removing some illegal spots in the rear tract of Masarykova Street and replacing about 16 of them with a new parking lot, but there is generally little space," the architect described the parking situation. Questions also directed towards provisions for cyclists. The study does not directly account for bike paths, but architects proposed barrier-free passages between Masarykova and Winston Churchill Street.

The estimated modifications the city plans for the currently unnamed street range between 150 million crowns and 170 million crowns. According to Kraml, the subsidy titles that were announced annually were not available this year. Therefore, it is also possible, according to him, for surrounding private entities, primarily the CPI properties company, to get involved in the repairs. The company owns many properties in the area. "Financially, the company could contribute to beautifying the space, as its assets will also increase in value," the architect noted.

The city leadership continues to take subsidy funds into account; one of the options is a grant from the Ministry of Regional Development for public space modifications. However, the project is not yet finished, which according to Tošovský could be completed this year. Beautification and other modifications could then begin roughly in the second half of next year, he said. Before that, the city will announce a public tender.

The study includes, among other things, changes to sidewalk surfaces and inner courtyards. Greenery will be added to the area, and the current green spaces will be modified and supplemented with, for example, benches and pavilions. The plan includes the construction of bike racks, a children's playground, water features, and also new container stands.
