Strakonice - Strakonice has announced a public tender for the reconstruction of the western part of the Great Square. In the section from Bavorova Street to Na Stráži Street, including Lázeňská Street, builders will repair the surface of the square and the engineering networks. The tender is expected to conclude in mid-April, after which the start and completion dates of the work will be determined, said the city spokesperson Markéta Bučoková today. The estimated price of the project is approximately 118 million CZK.

"Once the contractor is selected, the city leadership plans to meet with the residents of the affected part of the Great Square. During this meeting, the planned work schedule and measures to reduce the impact on the everyday lives of local residents will be presented in detail. It cannot be ruled out that the tender process may take longer than expected. If there are appeals or administrative delays, it may happen that the construction work does not start at all this year," said Bučoková.

The reconstruction of this part of the square will restrict all traffic, including city buses. Residential and public buildings will remain accessible during the construction, including the collection of municipal and recyclable waste, Bučoková noted.

According to the design by architect Milan Homolka and his team, a water feature resembling a gold panning dish will be created in the square, which will reflect the gold-bearing Otava river. The existing staircase will extend almost the entire length of the reconstructed square, which could also serve as a seating area and host concerts or theatrical performances. The square will be enhanced with new lighting, a freshly planted tree, and mobile flower pots.
