Třeboň - After two months, the reconstruction of the J. K. Tyl Theater in Třeboň in the Jindřichův Hradec region has been completed. The modifications, which concerned the interior of the building, reduced the seating capacity from 304 to 271 seats. However, the change will bring greater comfort for the audience, representatives of the Třeboň leadership told reporters today. The reconstruction of the theater cost more than five million crowns and the city funded it from its budget.

"The theater is called the small Golden Chapel. This is due to the similarity of the interior with the Prague National Theater," said Třeboň City Hall spokesperson Jitka Bednářová.

The theater's floors are now covered with heavy-duty carpets instead of linoleum. The reconstruction also included modifications to the dividing wall of the orchestra pit, which can now be disassembled. This allows the audience area to be enlarged. The project also included restoration work as part of the first phase. Further uncovering of layers of paint on the wooden structures will continue.

According to Mayor Terezie Jenisová (KDU-ČSL), heritage conservationists wanted the building to gradually return to its form from the mid-19th century. "However, we embarked on the reconstruction mainly because we wanted to improve the space for the audience. People were sitting in vinyl cinema seats, which was not very comfortable," she stated. She does not see the reduction in the number of seats in the auditorium as a fundamental change. "In the future, we will try to push the reconstruction even further, to complete some other plans. But this is a project that will take several years and we will try to secure grants from the Ministry of Culture for the modifications," she said.

The J. K. Tyl Theater in Třeboň is an Empire theater with one of the oldest preserved curtains in the Czech Republic. The building hosts not only theatrical performances but also frequently concerts and similar events. Třeboň has a long-standing theatrical history. According to preserved archival records, performances have been held here since the mid-16th century. The productions at that time were mainly provided by the monks of the Augustinian monastery, who focused on plays with biblical themes.
