Ústí nad Labem – The Swedish studio that won the architectural competition has begun work on the conceptual study of the Milada lake area near Ústí nad Labem. The goal is to create a basis for the gradual shaping of the landscape around the water surface. Initially, smaller structures will be implemented, such as rest areas with grills, informational boards. They will be available to visitors within two years. Meanwhile, the state is continuing with planned improvements. Engineering networks will be extended this year to both main beaches, and social facilities will be created. CTK was informed about this by Hana Volfová, spokesperson for the Ústí Fuel Combine (PKÚ), which operates under the state enterprise Diamo.
According to Volfová, the studio will focus primarily on mapping the wider links of the area being addressed. At the same time, a so-called design manual is being prepared, which will include rules for the arrangement of public spaces, furniture, greenery, orientation and navigation systems, advertising, artworks, technical infrastructure elements, and small architecture.
The manual will also set the architectural visual style of the area in question. "At the same time, three project documentation for the implementation of sample buildings included in the winning competition proposal will be processed, and advisory services will be provided for coordinating the area's development until 2030," Volfová stated.
Work on the documents will take place throughout this year and part of the next. The expected completion of work is in October 2023. The fee for the services provided by the studio will be paid gradually; the total contractual price for the realization of the work amounts to 6.2 million crowns. "The task of the state enterprise DIAMO, the subsidiary of PKÚ, is to create conditions and prepare the Milada lake area for investments from both public and private sources," the spokesperson stated.
In the first half of this year, PKÚ will work on extending engineering networks to both main beaches, including social facilities. "A project for parking lots and paths for pedestrians is being prepared, which will complement the existing communication network," Volfová noted.
Lake Milada, which was created by flooding a former brown coal mine, is a popular destination for tourists, cyclists, winter swimmers, water sports enthusiasts, and naturalists. "This year, traditional large races in running, cycling, triathlon, and quadrathlon will also be held," the spokesperson mentioned.
According to Volfová, the question of the target property rights arrangement of the area has not yet been resolved. Several options for further procedure have been proposed, including the option of transferring the area to adjacent municipalities according to their cadastral affiliation. "One of the key inputs into this decision-making process is expected to be provided by the conceptual study of further development and utilization of the recultivated area that is currently being processed," Volfová added.
