Czech architectural studios have joined forces to create the initiative Obnova21 to support those affected by the tornado that swept through Slovácko on the evening of June 24.

The tornado caused thousands of damaged homes. Nearly two hundred of them had to be demolished based on orders from construction authorities. Architectural studios edit architects, desk architekti, Marco Maio Architects, and YUAR Architects responded to the situation by establishing the initiative Obnova21 and are providing a family house project pro bono to those affected by the tornado. The aim of the initiative is to bring architecture where it is most needed.

A House for Slovácko with Preservation of Historical Heritage
A House for Slovácko is a concept for a family home designed for the street gaps created by the demolished buildings. The design draws inspiration from original Slovácko buildings, both in layout and appearance.
"In earlier times, each municipality typically had its builder or master mason, and they had their own signature, a pattern that can still be seen today with a little attention. It is worth considering working with this legacy during reconstruction. A great advantage was the similarity of layouts, construction solutions, and many details. Additionally, this pattern was flexible. Our idea for the concept of A House for Slovácko also builds on this flexibility," says architect Lukáš Janáč from the YUAR studio, the initiator of the action.
"Our goal is to create project documentation for a family house with a contemporary layout, materials, and technologies, and to offer this project to builders pro bono, that is, free of charge for their final adjustments. This not only can significantly save time and costs but also helps preserve the historical legacy," adds Janáč, who hails from Dubňany. You can easily request the family house project through the website www.obnova21.cz.
