Thanks to the Architekti Pro Bono project, Ms. Husáková contacted us. A tornado destroyed her mother's house in Hrušky, and she was looking for architects to design a new one.
Our shared goal was to design a modest home for a woman of mature age and occasional family visits, primarily from her grandchildren. The essence of the house is derived from traditional Czech and Moravian dwellings. Entering through a covered recessed entrance in the gable, I step into a pleasant yet practical space with wooden floors and ceilings. The rooms are designed simply, yet comfortably. The generous space of the living room and kitchen, open to the rafters, provides an unexpected experience in an otherwise modest home.
All rooms are connected to the garden through tall French windows, which can be shaded by sliding shutters and a pergola during the summer heat. The lush garden provides the house with ample privacy, making the openness of the house feel pleasant.
Traditional materials such as red ceramic tiles, white plaster, and wooden windows reference the original building. However, the new house does not replicate the original; instead, it aims to evoke the atmosphere of the missing home using familiar elements.
