Třebíč - The dilapidated Art Nouveau building of the former cinema Moravia in Třebíč is to be repurposed as a cultural facility. Screenings ended ten years ago, and the city has since been unable to sell the building. Therefore, it is preparing to convert it into a community center with club rooms and a multi-purpose hall that would be accessible to the public. As city councilor Marie Černá (Třebíč my home) told reporters today, it is currently possible to apply for a grant for such projects in the European IROP program.

"We see this as one of the few chances to save the building," Černá stated. The city plans to preserve the exterior appearance of the nearly hundred-year-old building as much as possible, but it would have to invest in the reconstruction of its interior spaces, where technical networks also need to be replaced.

Construction costs will be assessed after the documentation is completed. Černá noted that the union offers up to 20 million crowns for such a project. The designer should, therefore, proceed in a way that brings the costs of the Třebíč project as close as possible to this amount. The deadline for its submission to the European program will end this October.

Cinema Moravia, which was the oldest cinema in Třebíč, ceased operations ten years ago due to low attendance. In a town with 36,400 inhabitants, only the more modern cinema Pasáž remains. The city has attempted to sell the old cinema building. A private investor who offered nine million crowns for it was approved by the city council several years ago. However, according to Černá, he did not obtain a loan for his intention and ultimately did not sign the purchase agreement.
