Tachov - After five years, citizens of the thirteen-thousand-strong Tachov have an outdoor swimming pool again. They will no longer have to go to the indoor pool, travel 15 kilometers to Planá, to the ponds, or to Bavaria during the summer. The construction, costing around 50 million CZK, is already complete, and trial operation will begin in June, said Tachov Mayor Ladislav Macák to ČTK. Ensuring outdoor swimming for the people as quickly as possible is a priority for the city. "Since November, the pool has been filled, and the sealing is currently problem-free," Macák added. In spring, the dirty water will be replaced. Permission to start swimming will be granted by construction and other authorities. The water will be heated by solar collectors on the roof of the swimming hall, prolonging the swimming season at least until the end of September. Two-thirds of the capacity of the collectors are for the outdoor pool, and one-third is sufficient for the indoor one. There is plenty of heat; we are heating the inside, and people are almost complaining about how hot the water in the showers is, he stated. "The pools, including the children's pool, changing rooms, and sanitary facilities, are already completely finished. The attractions are already installed, but those that could be lost are not being placed there yet. In spring, we will only finish planting the terraces with trees and shrubs and the lawn," Macák said. Costs should be lower than planned, and it should still be possible to build whirlpools indoors. The attractions of the irregular stainless steel pool will include a slide, chutes, countercurrents, and "umbrellas." There will also be terraces with sunbeds for sunbathing. Because of the attractions, locals have previously gone to the Bavarian towns of Weiden and Sibyllenbad. People are reluctant to visit the surrounding ponds, such as Březák and Labuťák, because fish are fed there and the water is not ideal, Macák noted. The water park has grown next to the indoor pool in a vast sports complex. On the site of the old outdoor swimming pool, which was closed five years ago due to the emergency state of the basin, sports facilities will be built that are currently lacking in the city. "The basin will be filled in, and there will be fields for beach soccer and volleyball, a campsite, accommodation, and a restaurant," Macák added. Part of the area was offered by the municipality to the tennis club to build a hall. Thanks to significant investments in sports and recreation, the border town of Tachov has managed to maintain a substantial percentage of children and youth involved in sports for several years. The attractions prevent a larger outflow of people to the inland. In the enormous complex, there is a sports hall, football fields, an ice rink, shooting ranges, archery, bowling, courts for tennis and squash, a ski slope used by BMX riders in summer, and an inline track under the lift.
