Tábor

Tábor - A large reconstruction began today at the Tábor hospital. The construction of a new pavilion and the renovation of operating theaters will last until 2010. The investment will require 350 million crowns, and the costs will be covered by the hospital's own funds, as well as regional, state, and European grants.
“This is an extremely significant project. If I were to make any comparison with the history of the Tábor hospital, it can only be compared to its founding in 1940 and the partial reconstruction of the surgical pavilion with the construction of the new internal pavilion in 1984,” said Ivo Houška, the hospital director, to ČTK. The hospital has been striving for the modernization of operating rooms and outpatient clinics for several years. The first investment plan was approved by the South Bohemian Region council as early as 2006.
In the first phase, the operating theaters in the northern wing of the surgical pavilion will be renovated. In the second phase, an extension for outpatient surgery and orthopedics, a hospital anesthesiology-resuscitation department, delivery rooms, and a maternity ward will be created. Another part of the reconstruction will be the renewal of the hospital section of the surgical pavilion, including outpatient clinics and intensive care units. In the final phase, energy distribution systems will be repaired, and the internal pavilion will be adjusted. “We need to bring the building from 1940 up to the standards of the 21st century,” added Houška.
The renovation of the operating theaters is expected to be completed in the first half of 2008. The extension of outpatient clinics, ARO, and the maternity ward will be finished in the fall of 2008, and testing will begin at the turn of 2008 and 2009. The reconstruction of the hospital bed capacity of the surgical pavilion will follow in 2009, and the internal pavilion in 2010.
The history of the Tábor hospital is linked to the name of the Tábor mayor Václav Soumar. During his term, the construction of the new Tábor hospital began in November 1935. The western wing of surgical specialties was opened in November 1939, and in January 1940, the eastern wing opened. In the 1980s, a pavilion for internal specialties was built.
The Tábor hospital is a joint-stock company owned by the South Bohemian Region, which owns a total of seven regional hospitals.
