Štěpánov - The Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) plans to invest several tens of millions of crowns in the revitalization or repair of train stations in the Olomouc Region over the next five years. The investment will affect nearly fifty stations, said Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director General of SŽDC, during the ceremonial opening of the renovated dispatch building at the Štěpánov railway station in Olomouc today.
According to him, the largest planned renovations in the Olomouc Region will concern the stations in Hanušovice in the Šumperk district, Šternberk in the Olomouc region, and Kojetín in the Přerov district. "This year we are already starting the reconstruction of the station in Přerov and also in Lipník nad Bečvou," Drmola stated.
For example, the first phase of the reconstruction of the station in Přerov is expected to cost 20 million crowns, and a similar amount will be required for the repair of the station in nearby Lipník nad Bečvou.
SŽDC today completed the renovation of the station in Štěpánov, investing 3.3 million crowns. This included the modification of unused spaces and a waiting room for passengers. The roof of the station building was also repaired.
The railway station in Štěpánov was reconstructed from 2002 to 2004, which included the dispatch building. However, after 2008, when the dispatcher service ended, both the ticket office and waiting room were closed. In the following years, the unused building deteriorated.
Last year, the municipality of Štěpánov expressed interest in the spaces of the station building, which they offered to local associations after the renovation. "There will be young naturalists, hunters, and a creative circle for adults," said the mayor of Štěpánov, Jiří Šindler. Thanks to the renovation, the waiting room for passengers was reopened at the station last summer. The municipality supervises the operation of the waiting room along with the operator of a clothing cleaning service that is located at the station.
