Karlovy Vary/Liberec - The company Syner Liberec, which won the tender for the construction of a multifunctional hall in Karlovy Vary as part of a consortium with Baustav and Metrostav, is demanding that the Karlovy Vary city council take a stance regarding the questioning of this selection process. Syner wants the city to respond to how certain media criticize the drawing of the tender winner. The spokesman for Syner, Ondřej Paclt, informed ČTK about this. He did not specify which media were involved.

The opposition in the Karlovy Vary city council has criticized the manner in which the winning companies were drawn in connection with the selection process. In a video recording, which is now available on the internet, it can be seen how representatives of the company authorized to organize the tender and drawing select tickets with the numbers of companies from a box under the supervision of a notary. "During the drawing of tickets for the consortium Syner, Baustav, and Metrostav, which won, it took over half a minute to draw the tickets from the box. Previously, it was always a matter of a few seconds," said councilor Jiří Kotek (SNK ED).
In a letter addressed by the Syner management to the mayor of Karlovy Vary, Veronika Vlková, it is stated, among other things, that the transparency of the act itself is still being questioned, and in this context, the name of the company Syner is scandalized, even though it participated in the selection process as an interested party within the consortium. In this letter, Syner stated that it does not wish to be associated with the nature of the selection process. All misleading and untrue information harms its good name and reputation, the letter states.
The spokesman for the city council, Jakub Kaválek, announced to ČTK that the mayor has not yet received any letter from the management of Syner. As soon as it is delivered, the city management will familiarize itself with it and take a stance, the spokesman said. "Karlovy Vary commissioned the company Stormen to organize the selection process. The city did not interfere in it in any way. The legal analysis of the tender shows that no law was violated. It has not yet been established that anyone has made a mistake," Kaválek noted.
The construction of the multifunctional hall, which began on February 1, is now intensively continuing with earthworks and the preparation of the foundation pit. Dozens of trucks are transporting tons of soil to landfills every day. The multifunctional hall is expected to be completed within two years. The city has invested about 24 million crowns in the preparatory work. An additional approximately 12 million crowns has already been spent.
Of the total costs for the multifunctional hall, which exceed one billion crowns, Karlovy Vary is to pay around 924.5 million crowns. An additional 155 million crowns is a promised state subsidy. The city council approved that the city could borrow up to 600 million crowns for the construction from Komerční banka.
The construction of the multifunctional arena has many supporters, but also opponents. A petition demanding the halt of the construction is currently circulating in the city. So far, over 1000 people have signed it. This week, the city council reviewed the text of the petition and a letter from the initiator of the petition, Otmar Homolka. "The council discussed this matter and will respond to Mr. Homolka's questions," said deputy mayor Petr Keřka.
