On Monday, November 9, 2015, at 19:00, there will be a screening of the documentary film Superjednostka by Teresa Czepiec at the Forum for Architecture and Media in Brno on Husova Street, which will take us through the intricate corridors of one of the largest Polish residential complexes. Superjednostka in Katowice is the largest housing complex in Poland. The camera guides us through the complexity of the corridors and staircases, giving us a glimpse into the apartments and lives of the residents of this enormous building. In the fifteen-story panel building with 762 apartments, up to 3000 people can live, and there are 200 garages located in the basement. The corridors on the 2nd, 8th, and 14th floors connect the entire block and measure more than 150 meters, with the elevator stopping only on every third floor. The prefabricated building, designed by the prominent post-war Polish architect Mieczysław Król (1928-2013) as a "machine for living," is both the main character of the documentary along with its residents and a metaphor for society. The series of film screenings VACANT MODERN is a contribution to the current debate on the issue of heritage protection of modern architecture.
