Vysoké Mýto (Orlickoústecko) - If Vysoké Mýto in the Orlickoústecko region transforms the Vanorného square with the Church of St. Lawrence in the coming years, it can be assured that it will be one of the best architectural solutions in the country. The study by architect Milan Košař won a national competition for architectural and urban planning works and is advancing to an international contest. City representatives informed the press about this today. "For us, it is essential to secure funding. It will amount to tens of millions of crowns. We have already received some resources from European funds, so it would be naive to assume that all the money would go to one city," said Mayor Martin Krejza. However, the square absolutely requires modifications. There is chaotic parking, and trucks enter the square. There are inappropriate greenery modifications or a restaurant patio that does not fit with the sacred building. Architect Košař, along with Aleš Klose, developed a plan for traffic calming, space enhancement, and pedestrian area expansion in the study. "It is also necessary to remove unsuitable existing surfaces and pave the entire area. We are proposing three types of pavement, prioritizing pedestrian traffic and relaxation areas," Košař said. The architects also propose nighttime illumination of the church, and the baroque statue of St. Lawrence should return to the front of the building. One option is a glass elevator at the church bell tower, which is a modern feature, but so far, heritage conservationists have raised no objections. The restaurant's terrace would be shaded by newly planted greenery. The memorial to war victims would change its location and be moved from the church to a green lawn in another part of the square. Parking bollards would prevent chaotic parking, some of which would be retractable to keep the square accessible, for example, during fire department interventions, for medical services, or for wedding parties.
