Kutná Hora - The Building of the Year for the Central Bohemian Region for 2013 has been awarded to the revitalization of the town center in Mšeno in the Mělník district. The award was given for extensive cultivation of the public urban space and the quality of the architectural and functional solution of the building. The announcement was made today at the ceremonial award ceremony at the Central Bohemian Gallery in Kutná Hora by the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction, which organizes the competition.

    In the second year of the competition, 15 buildings were registered, from which the jury selected five nominations. The designer of the winning building is CR Project, the supplier was H-Intes and the investor was the town of Mšeno. "The building represents a well-designed connection between architectural expression and functionality. The modesty of the architectural concept allows the building and heritage dominants of the space to stand out," stated the foundation in a press release. Among the other nominees was, for example, the reconstruction of a road bridge in Brandýs nad Labem - Stará Boleslav or the Club House in Kutná Hora.
    Construction works submitted to the competition are evaluated by a seven-member expert jury appointed by the program council. The criteria for evaluation include the quality of the investment intention, integration of the building into the surroundings, architectural quality of the building, quality of construction and craftsmanship, as well as the aspect of sustainable construction, ecology, and overall energy efficiency.
    Another award of the evening was the Governor's Award for the greatest contribution to the Central Bohemian Region. It was awarded for the reconstruction of the cultural monument Niederlův Pavilion at the Kladno hospital. The public awarded the prize to the Amonit family house shaped like a snail shell in Horoměřice near Prague.
    The jury also awarded several special prizes, for example, for the reconstruction of an industrial building. This was awarded for the reconstruction of a coal mill in Libčice nad Vltavou near Prague. The best investment intention of the year was selected to be the reconstruction of the kindergarten in Stašov in the Beroun region for exemplary investment of public finances into the development of community facilities in the area of education and social services.
    According to the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction, the aim of the competition is to familiarize the widest professional and lay public with the level of Czech construction and architecture. The competition is announced to support quality building implementations with the aim of recognizing the joint efforts of investors, designers, and suppliers.
