The construction of the year in the Karlovy Vary Region has become a multifunctional arena

Karlovy Vary - In the competition for the Building of the Year in the Karlovy Vary Region, which was part of the For Arch exhibition, the multifunctional arena in Karlovy Vary won over experts, with construction costs exceeding one billion crowns. It was opened last June. In the public voting on the internet, the highest score was achieved by the Agricultural Center Agricola in Jáchymov, which was built at a cost of approximately 100 million crowns. This was announced today by Anna Vlášková, manager of the Regional Building Association.
    The arena in the Tuhnice district of Karlovy Vary serves the extraleague hockey players HC Energie and hosts a variety of sports, cultural, and social events. Since its opening, it has welcomed 250,000 paying visitors to various programs. The arena, with a capacity of 6,000 seats, was built by a consortium of companies Syner, Baustav, and Metrostav. Due to disputed lottery results in the tender for the construction of the arena, the Office for the Protection of Competition imposed a fine of half a million crowns on the city in 2008.
    Second place in the Karlovy Vary Region Building competition was awarded by the expert jury for the reconstruction and completion of the railway station in Mariánské Lázně, which cost approximately 93 million crowns and was carried out by Grandi Stazioni. The Agricultural Center took third place, Vlášková stated. Among the projects, the best-rated was the acute medicine pavilion in Karlovy Vary, construction of which started in May at a cost of 597 million crowns. The project in second place was the expressway between Karlovy Vary and Olšové Vraty.
    This year, 12 completed buildings and seven projects or urban studies competed for the title of Building of the Karlovy Vary Region. In the nine years since the competition for the Building of the Karlovy Vary Region began, 231 buildings and projects have been submitted. The highest number was during the premiere of the event in 2001, when 37 buildings were submitted to the competition, which was then conceived as the best building of the decade. Last year, awards were given for the modernization of the airport in Karlovy Vary and the restoration of the towers of St. Nicholas Church in Cheb.
