Louňovice – The construction of a joint school in Louňovice near Prague will begin in mid-March. It will serve 540 children from four municipalities of the LOŠBATES union, starting from September 2025. The costs will reach 537 million crowns excluding VAT, reported today to ČTK communication coordinator for Lošbates Jan Šimral. The union includes the municipalities of Louňovice, Tehovec, Štíhlice, and Svojetice.
"Construction will commence in mid-March of this year and will last 17 months. The school will thus open its doors on September 1, 2025. For us, this deadline is non-negotiable, as the capacity of the school in Stříbrná Skalice, where our children currently commute, will be fully utilized after this date," said the mayor of Louňovice and chairman of the Lošbates union of municipalities, Josef Řehák.
A gymnasium, additional sports facilities, and a basic art school will be located near the school. The investment will also include modifications to pedestrian access and transportation around the building, designed by the winner of the international architectural competition, the Pelletier de Fontenay studio from Montreal, Canada, in collaboration with the Czech company SOA architekti. The construction of the school will be financed by the municipalities with the help of a grant from the Ministry of Education, the State Environmental Fund, the Central Bohemian Region, and part of the funding will come from the union's budget.
Other schools are also being established in the Central Bohemian Region, some of which are joint. The reason is the construction around Prague and the related increase in the number of residents moving to the region. The current capacity of schools is therefore insufficient. For example, in October last year, the construction of a joint school for 810 children began in Chýně near Prague, which will also serve children from Hostivice. At the beginning of February, a company took over the construction site that will build a school for 540 students in Drahelčice. This will also serve children from Úhonice. A new primary school is also being built in Říčany near Prague.
