Ústí nad Orlicí – The construction of new studios for the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Ústí nad Orlicí will cost approximately 100 million crowns. The Pardubice Region plans to build them on the site of the former textile factory Perla 01. The project is among the main investment priorities of the region in education, stated the spokesman for the regional authority, Dominik Barták, in a press release.

"The project documentation with estimated costs around 100 million crowns is ready, and we are now exploring options for the new programming period of European funds," said Governor Martin Netolický (3PK/ČSSD). According to the agreement, the city is to provide the land to the region free of charge for the construction.

According to the leadership of Ústí nad Orlicí, the new studios could be built over the next three years. The new building will significantly enhance all the comfort and operations of the School of Applied Arts. It will serve practical and studio classes. The studios from Špindlerova Street will move into it. The core classrooms would remain in the school's second building on Zahradní Street.

The three-hectare site of the former Perla textile factory was purchased by Ústí nad Orlicí in 2011 for 30 million crowns. The city demolished a large part of the buildings. This September, after two years of construction and interior furnishing, Ústí officially opened a new building for the House of Children and Youth on the site. The construction cost 85 million crowns excluding VAT, and the city secured a 30 million crown grant from the Ministry for Regional Development for it. Another intention of the city hall is to transform the buildings of the former boiler room and engine room, which it kept in its ownership, into a contemporary art gallery with a reference to the textile history of the city.

Ústí has already attracted additional investors to the area. The company Vital is building a new rehabilitation center there. A firm purchased the administrative building that remained from the former textile factory, with plans to use the site for services, shops, and apartments.
