Prague - Managers and other administrative employees of construction companies often leave the warmth of their offices to experience life on construction sites firsthand. During site visits, they are to understand how they operate from the other side as well. The aim is to increase overall safety on construction sites, as stated in today's findings by ČTK among the largest construction companies. "It is in everyone's interest that all employees can return home safely from work every evening. A construction site is not a battlefield, and there is no reason for anyone to be injured or even killed there," noted the Chairman of the Board of Skanska CS, Dan Ťok. At Skanska CS itself, over 100 managers had to leave their offices to go out among cranes and concrete plants within one week. "We want to allow managers and people from the sites to understand safety from the side they usually do not know," said the director of the Quality and Sustainable Development department, Veronika Černá. Managers are also present at construction sites during management meetings at Hochtief CZ, stated the company spokeswoman Jitka Kovaříková. The domestic construction second largest firm Metrostav is reportedly following a similar approach. "We regularly send office workers to construction sites," said company spokesman František Polák to ČTK. According to him, the worst safety situation exists among subcontracting companies. They often lack even basic equipment, such as helmets and appropriate clothing. "The level at some subcontractors is terrible," noted Polák. For every hundred employees in Czech construction, there are approximately three work-related injuries annually, according to a press release referencing data from the Czech Statistical Office by Skanska CS.
