Znojmo - The dilapidated Louka Monastery in Znojmo will soon be for sale for approximately 55 million crowns. The Office for the Representation of the State in Property Affairs (ÚZSVM) has decided to announce another round of tender for the sale of this unique monument. In the previous three rounds, no interested parties emerged, so the office is gradually reducing the price, now lowering it by 23 million crowns. The office will announce the fourth round of the tender within two weeks, stated ÚZSVM spokesperson Jana Rennerová to ČTK. The state has been trying to find a new use for the monument for several years now, so far without success. The main reason is the poor condition of the building, which requires repairs costing hundreds of millions of crowns. In the first round, the office set the price of the monastery at 160 million crowns, and in the third round, the building was offered for 78 million. Investors still found the price exorbitant. The extensive building, which is one of the prominent landmarks of Znojmo, was previously of interest to the Memorial of National Literature. They considered moving their depots from several locations in the Czech Republic into the building. They abandoned the idea due to the great distance from Prague and the condition of the monastery. Znojmo's city hall was also among the interested parties. However, they ultimately could not come to an agreement with the state regarding the method and circumstances of the transfer and subsequent repairs. According to a project that the city hall had prepared a few years ago, Louka Monastery would be suitable for educational, conference, or cultural purposes. Currently, one part of the building houses the wine center of Znovín Znojmo. However, only about one twenty-fifth of the spacious complex is utilized, the rest is deteriorating. Louka Monastery was founded in 1190 by the Znojmo Prince Konrád Ota. A generous reconstruction in the 18th century was interrupted by the abolition of the monastery during Josephine reforms. After that, the building housed a tobacco processing factory and a military academy. The monastery served as a barracks until 1993.
