Znojmo - The state will attempt to sell the Louka Monastery in Znojmo for a minimum price of 112 million crowns. No interested parties appeared at the initial price of 160 million. This was announced today by Jana Rennerová, spokesperson for the Office for the Representation of the State in Property Matters. The state has been trying for several years to find a new use for the 12th-century monument. So far, it has been in vain, among other reasons due to the hundreds of millions in necessary repair costs. Last year, for example, the Memorial of National Literature showed interest in the extensive building. It considered whether to relocate its depots from several locations in the Czech Republic to the spacious site. However, it ultimately abandoned the idea due to the great distance from Prague and the condition of the monastery. Estimates of reconstruction costs, according to last year's information from the Ministry of Culture, range from 600 to 800 million crowns, but they could be significantly higher. According to a project commissioned a few years ago by the Znojmo city hall, the Louka Monastery would be suitable for educational, conference, or cultural purposes. Currently, one part of the building houses the Znovín Znojmo wine center. In the past, the monument served the engineering academy and the army. The Office for the Representation of the State in Property Matters will announce the second round of the selection process for a new owner likely within two weeks, Rennerová added.
