Klatovy - The State Administration of Railways (SŽ) will repair the monumentally protected train station building in Klatovy, in the second largest town and railway station in the Plzeň Region. The work is estimated to cost nearly 400 million crowns. The construction is planned to start this autumn and is expected to be completed by early 2027. This was announced today by SŽ spokesperson Nela Eberl Friebová. The start of construction should correspond with the construction of a transfer terminal in front of the station, which will be financed by the regional government.
"We have recently announced a tender for the contractor for the work (on the train station building) with an estimated value of 393 million crowns," Friebová stated. According to her, the objective of the revitalization is a more efficient use of the interior spaces. "The work will primarily involve the reconstruction of the ticket hall and both wings of the building. New public restrooms will be built, and all interior spaces will be modified to meet current requirements," she added.
The building will also be accessible without barriers after the repairs, as will the entire station, due to elevators that will connect the underpass with the platforms and the ticket hall. Cyclists will have access to a brick shelter for bicycles. Bus drivers will also benefit from the planned transfer terminal, which will be created in the space in front of the station.
The terminal next to the station, costing more than 100 million crowns, will be constructed by the region together with the city. "We are now releasing a tender for the supplier; the approval of the project documentation at the Regional Development Center took a long time, as we applied for a grant from the European IROP program," said Deputy Governor Pavel Čížek (STAN) to ČTK today. The grant for the terminal can be up to 65 million crowns.
Construction of the terminal will begin this autumn and is expected to be completed in 2025. The region has budgeted funds for both years. According to Čížek, the terminal will be the most expensive in the region so far. However, he hopes to lower its price through supplier bidding. The final price will largely depend on the cost of roofing, the largest item. It will extend from the train station building and significantly impact the green space, where a roundabout will be created for separate access for buses and cars to the parking lot. The terminal will have a parking lot for cars, public transport stops, bus lines, boarding islands, and bus parking areas. "The city will participate in the construction. We have agreed on the bike paths and sidewalks for now," he added.
According to Čížek, a contract for future lease regarding the purchase of land for the terminal has been concluded with Czech Railways. "Negotiations are ongoing," said the deputy. The Klatovy bus station under the future terminal, which belongs to a private company, will remain in its current form.
