Prague - The development company Central Group has acquired the northern part of the Žižkov freight station. On the empty plots it purchased from the British firm Discovery Group, it plans to build thousands of apartments. This is reported by the newspaper E15. According to them, the transaction exceeded one billion crowns.
A spokesperson for Central Group confirmed to the newspaper that the company had signed a contract under which it purchased the land, including rights to the original project with an already issued zoning decision. Contrary to the plans of the British Discovery Group, which intended to build a shopping center at the site, Central Group wants to primarily utilize the land for residential construction. According to the newspaper E15, the plot can accommodate more than 2,600 apartments, the construction of which will require over nine billion crowns. Building could reportedly start in a year, according to the paper.
Neither party to the transaction wanted to comment on how much Central Group paid for the land in Prague 3. The newspaper E15, citing sources from the market, states that the price was expected to range from one to one and a half billion crowns.
The southern part of the Žižkov freight station, which includes a listed functionalist building, is owned by Žižkov Station Development. This is a joint venture of Czech Railways and the development firm Sekyra Group.
