Ostrava - The company Amádeus Real has sold a complex of dilapidating historical buildings, including the former fashion house Ostravica-Textilia in the center of Ostrava. This was reported today by the company's spokesperson Jan Piskáček. The sale price and the name of the new owner have not been disclosed by the company. According to information from the land registry, the new owner is RME Czech. CTK has not yet been able to obtain a statement from the new owner. The company Amádeus Real acquired the properties in 2007 and planned to build a multifunctional shopping center on the site, which would include the historical buildings. "With this project, which incorporated the mentioned historical buildings, the company won a development competition in 2008 for the infill of the gap after the so-called German House on Dr. E. Beneš Square, announced by the statutory city of Ostrava," Piskáček recalled. However, two years ago the developer withdrew from the purchase contract for the land when the central city district Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz did not approve the construction. Eventually, the district did grant approval, but the city could not reach an agreement with the company for further cooperation and continuation of the project. According to Piskáček, the district's actions were irresponsible and illegal, and the associated negative publicity ultimately led to the cessation of project financing by the lending bank. The city then formally disputed the withdrawal from the contract, and the dispute ended up in court. According to available information, Amádeus Real has sued the city of Ostrava for nearly 1.6 billion crowns and interest for the unrealized investment. "The change of ownership is new information for us. We are ready to meet with any new property owner because we are interested in their future plans for Ostravica. We welcome any change that will lead to the preservation of these heritage properties," said Mayor Petr Kajnar (elected by ČSSD). According to city representatives, the change of ownership does not affect the ongoing lawsuits. The decline of what was once the most luxurious department store in the city began in 2000, when ceilings collapsed during an unauthorized renovation. Eventually, disputes arose between the city and the district with the developer, and the complex of three historical buildings, two of which are protected as cultural monuments, has been deteriorating for years. A petition was also created in support of it, signed by more than 7,200 people. In March, members of the petition committee launched another information campaign for the rescue of Ostravica-Textilia, starting to distribute free badges with the logo of the department store.
