Milovice - The Mladá Boleslav court has suspended the Central Bohemian Region's handling of properties in the former military area in Milovice. The preliminary injunction was requested by the former tenant, Mladá RP, whose contract was terminated by the region at the beginning of this August. The reason stated was the failure to meet demolition deadlines. Mladá RP rejects this, claiming that the region terminated the lease contract based on a fabricated assertion. The governor's deputy Karel Horčička (ČSSD) described the preliminary measure as a pressure tactic. He told ČTK today that the region will appeal against it. However, he believes that a peaceful resolution of the whole dispute is still possible.

If the region fails in its appeal, the preliminary measure will remain in effect until the parties reach an agreement or the court decides on their settlement. The regional council discussed the matter on Monday, and they assigned the court's decision and evaluation of its impacts to lawyers. Horčička stated that the regional authority will probably need to reassess some of its plans, but nothing is changing immediately, as the company was supposed to vacate the premises by August 7, which has not yet occurred.

"I see it as an attempt to exert pressure on us to achieve as much as possible," commented Horčička on the company's actions. According to him, a lawsuit has also been filed to annul the termination, but he did not know the details. The region clearly indicated the conditions under which an agreement can be reached, according to the deputy. "If there is no agreement between the two partners, a court will have to decide," he noted.

According to the spokesperson for Mladá RP, Martin Grmela, the actions of the regional representatives are a long-term and purposeful effort to obtain the former military area for their own projects or to conclude other lease contracts in the industrial zone being developed by Mladá RP. "The tenant will continue to resist the region's purposeful actions," Grmela stated. Representatives of the region deny this. They claim that the regional authority acted as required by the contract.

The Central Bohemian Region signed a lease contract with Mladá RP in 2010. According to it, the company was to use the area for 40 years, for which it paid a rent of 25 million crowns in advance. The company claims it still has three years to remove the hangars and dilapidated panel buildings. According to the region, all buildings were supposed to be removed within five years of the contract signing, i.e., by last December.

The former military area in Milovice is the largest brownfield in the Czech Republic. Demolitions of hangars and dilapidated panel buildings that remained after the departure of Soviet troops in 1991 began at the beginning of 2014. After the land is modified, the site, covering more than 600 hectares, is expected to be developed for industrial use.
