Prague - The government proposal for a new building law will be the main topic of today's extraordinary meeting of the Chamber of Deputies. The deputies will begin discussing it in the first reading, during which they will decide whether to pass it on to the next stage of deliberation. According to the government, the new legal regulation aims to speed up the building process and shorten the approval time.
The Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) expects, among other things, to reduce the average approval time for larger projects from 5.4 years to one year. However, the law has several critics, including some opposition members and the Union of Towns and Municipalities. The planned changes will incur billion-dollar costs, but according to the government, they will also bring savings.
The law is supposed to bring, for example, a shortened building process, where a building permit can be issued within 30 days. This is primarily aimed at straightforward cases of family homes. The builder will be able to communicate with the authorities electronically within the building process.
