The ceremony will conclude the construction of a modern church in Brno-Lesná

Brno - The faithful from Brno-Lesná will meet today for the solemn blessing of the new church dedicated to Blessed Marie Restituta. The modernly designed building, with a standalone tower, is situated in the middle of a panel housing estate. It will be blessed by auxiliary bishop of Brno Pavel Konzbul. A collection for the church's furnishings will take place during the mass.

The parish recommends that participants of the festive event, originally planned for May 1, arrive by public transportation. Parking spots in the estate are likely to be full. Masks are mandatory in the indoor spaces.

The costs of the construction work exceeded 100 million crowns, and the parish has been collecting funds among believers and small donors for several years. Additional costs are associated with acoustics, the carillon, and interior furnishings.

The unconventional church designed by architect Marek Jan Štěpán has been under construction since August 2017. The circular building, with its dominant 31-meter-high tower featuring a carillon, has been built entirely as a monolithic reinforced concrete structure. Notable elements include the rainbow glass under the vault.

Blessed Marie Restituta is a native of the nearby Husovice. She lived in Vienna as a nun and nurse. The Nazis executed her in 1943.
