The German Design Award is an international design prize awarded by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Technology. First awarded in 1969, the prize recognizes exceptional achievements in product and communication design, as well as personalities in the field of design. Interior design and architecture are integral categories. Applications for the competition are conditional on the nomination of excellent projects by the competition organizers.

HUA HUA ARCHITECTS from Brno defended their title by winning in two nominated categories. The first project in the Excellent Architecture/Urban Space and Infrastructure category is the realization of the footbridge Eva together with the modernization of the railway station in Adamov. The project was completed in 2022 in collaboration with the Railway Administration, SUDOP Brno, and Swietelsky Rail CZ. The artistic design of the facade with a riddle was contributed by painter Václav Kočí.

Authors' annotation:
The footbridge Eva in Adamov is a timeless and functional solution for a railway, bus, and pedestrian transport hub. The client requested the creation of a new barrier-free access to the platforms and a safe crossing over the railway tracks, which would also connect the two parts of the city of Adamov. The overall modernization consists not only of the new footbridge but also new platforms, stairs with a ramp, two dispatcher buildings, a bus stop, parking, and public spaces. The design of the steel footbridge is inspired by the industrial history and the name of the city of Adamov.

Jury statement:
The footbridge for pedestrians effectively and safely connects both parts of Adamov and is an attractive contribution to accessibility and urban connectivity. The way in which the design of the steel structure relates to the historical industrial appearance and interprets it in a modern way has been achieved at a high level of design.

In the second category of Excellent Architecture/Interior Architecture, the award was received for the realization of the Eye Center in Prague. OCP was completed in collaboration with Skanska CZ in the PORT7 building in Prague’s Holešovice in 2023.

Authors' annotation:
The new spaces of OCP offer a modern environment for quality eye care. "Seeing clearly" is the starting motto of the interior. A bright, clean interior with unique details and quality materials. Light and its refraction are the main idea. Rays in the form of fixtures and graphics on glass shine throughout the Center. The interior stands out thanks to reflective materials like corian and glass. The Eye Center includes client spaces, waiting rooms, toilets, 12 examination rooms, 4 operating rooms, a pharmacy, and administrative offices. Each functional part of the Eye Center has its color based on the spectrum of light refraction.

Jury statement:
The design of the interior of the Eye Center Prague creates a harmonious combination of functionality and aesthetics. The smart use of lightweight and high-quality materials creates an inspiring environment for both patients and staff that brings both clarity and tranquility.
