On Thursday, November 21, a ceremonial announcement of the winning projects of the fourth year of the Dean's Award took place at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University. The jury recognized the best studio and diploma works from the past academic year. The final projects can be seen in the exhibition on the ground floor of the faculty until January 15, 2025.
The Dean's Award is given annually to exceptional semester and diploma projects and reflects the quality and direction of teaching at the faculty. This year, a total of 21 first-year projects, 64 studio projects, and 28 diploma works were nominated. The winning projects were decided by a seven-member jury consisting of: Dalibor Hlaváček, Marie Gelová, Michal Marcinov, Magdalena Rochová, Eva Gabaš Rosenová, Petr Stanický, and Martin Stára.

The authors of the winning projects received uranium yellow statuettes designed by design graduate Klára Janypková. The Dean's Awards for studio projects were additionally rewarded with a check for 20,000 CZK, and for the diploma work, 30,000 CZK.

“The fourth year of the competition has shown that our students have a wide range of topics on which they work in the studios. The jury appreciated the high quality and thoughtfulness of the nominated projects, as well as the passion that our students and teachers devote to architecture and urbanism, landscape architecture, and design. I congratulate all the awardees and nominees,” says the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at CTU, Dalibor Hlaváček.

In the category of first-year studio work, Jakub Zehle from the ZAN Balejová–Mrázová studio won with the project Hájovna. The jury praised the comprehensive processing, playful visual imagination, and sensitive placement in the landscape.

The gallery in Hořice by Adéla Klihavcová from the Hlaváček-Čeněk-Minarovič studio received the award for studio project in the architecture category. The jurors highlighted the installation in the unique context of a sculpture park, work with mass, materiality, lighting, spatial arrangement, and experiential quality.

The award for a studio project in the urbanism category was given to Štěpán Macka for the project Zenklova – urbanism. He collaborated on it with Tereza Hanáčková, Karolína Hustá, Teodor Sticzay, Matěj Koliáš, and Lukáš Liska. “The processing is elaborate and convincing. The work with public space is precise,” the jury stated in their evaluation.

The author team from the Salzmann studio comprised of Martina Gruntová, Josefína Jírovcová, Anna Koupalová, Eliška Kuncířová, Daniela Kvapilová, Denisa Moravcová, and Zuzana Purmová, placed first in the landscape architecture category. Their project dealt with the concept of the Semněvice landscape, and the jury was impressed by the thoughtful way it addresses the current theme of how to live and manage in a village in the 21st century.

The exercise aid in the form of a weighted vest by Tereza Cvrčková from the Fišer studio was chosen as the best work in the design category. The author experimented with and presented the jury with many different ergonomic and visual approaches during her work on the project. “The theme was very well tackled, unfolded design-wise, and solved comprehensively,” the jury adds.

The best diploma work is the Conversion of the Košíře Depot, developed by Karolína Šimonová from the Císler–Pazdera studio. The jurors appreciated the work with the original object and the detailed processing, including the materials used.
