Brno - The regional court in Brno will address the zoning proceedings for the reconstruction of the Brno railway hub. Several entities have filed lawsuits against the actions of the Brno city council, which rejected requests for changes to the zoning decision for the construction. People are dissatisfied that the city hall rejected their appeals that they filed against the document last year. Eva Řehořková from the Department of Zoning and Building Proceedings told ČTK today. The reconstruction of the Brno railway hub is the largest construction project in the history of the South Moravian Region. It includes building a new main railway station, which is to be located about 800 meters south of the current station in the historic city center, constructing a depot, and the overall modernization of the railway line through Brno. However, the original plans of the former city leadership encountered resistance from part of the public, which was also not favored by the new city leadership. Therefore, they commissioned a comparative study of two variants with the station in its original and relocated position, which was also a condition for drawing European subsidies. Based on the results of the study, the original project is now being revised. There is also consideration for the possibility of preserving the original station, which would be connected to the new one via a grade-separated rapid transit line. "Several dozen appeals were filed against the zoning decision issued by the Brno-Centrum building authority, which designated the location of the Brno railway hub. Our department rejected all of them with its decision," said Řehořková. However, the zoning proceedings are still final. The court will now deal with the lawsuits of the opponents of the relocation and people who are concerned about the negative impacts of construction work. The zoning proceedings do not represent a final decision on where the station will be located. However, the investor can start applying for partial building permits thanks to it. Currently, a depot is being constructed, which is the first of several phases of the hub reconstruction, expected to cost around twenty billion crowns. Further progress on the future of the original station is expected on Friday when a committee for the reconstruction of the hub meets, consisting of representatives from the investor, the designer, and the city of Brno.
