Prague – The repair of the Doubravka lookout tower in Prague 14, which was damaged by fire last November, has preliminarily cost the city district nearly 800,000 korunas. However, the city hall is still awaiting the final accounting of the repairs. Mayor Radek Vondra (TOP 09) informed ČTK today. The fire damaged the lookout tower on the morning of November 20 last year. The cause of the fire is not yet known. The lookout tower was designed by architect Martin Rajniš.
"We should have the accounting by Friday of this week. The amount of 800,000 korunas is an estimate with a reserve, it will likely be closer to 700,000 korunas,” Vondra said.
During the fire, one of the three footings of the structure, which is made of acacia wood, was damaged. Initially, the city hall anticipated repairs to take several months, but it eventually turned out that the fire did not damage the structure to the extent that it needed to be completely replaced. A wooden tool shed was also destroyed. It will not be rebuilt.
The Doubravka lookout tower in the Čihadla nature park in Prague 14 was opened in mid-June 2018. The experimental 23.5-meter-high observation tower made from acacia wood was designed by architect Martin Rajniš. The lookout tower was created at the initiative of the Prague 14 city hall, which is its owner. In addition to acacia wood, the tower is composed of larch wood and steel elements.
