Náměšť nad Oslavou (Třebíč region) - The town hall in Náměšť nad Oslavou will take over the local gym and, using subsidies, will ensure its substantial reconstruction. The intent was approved today by the councilors. According to the draft contract, the Sokol Physical Education Union, which currently owns the building, will be able to use the gym free of charge for 12 hours a week for 25 years. The city intends to invest around ten million crowns into the repair and modernization of the building.
"We want to help the Sokol organization so they don't have to worry about property and can focus on their activities. We don’t want to build a cultural house, but rather invest in something that already exists in the city,” said Mayor Vladimír Měrka (SNK-For the City of Náměšť nad Oslavou) to ČTK. According to him, the gym is the only cultural venue in the city aside from the castle riding hall.
According to the mayor of the local Sokol TJ, Erik Hubcej, the planned change is a good solution that arose from mutual agreement. "It is legitimate that the city should own the building if it wants to invest in it," Hubcej told ČTK.
The gym has been in Náměšť since 1925. Several sports clubs operate there, and most cultural and social events take place in it. According to Deputy Mayor Jan Kotačka (Cooperation - Activities), the building currently does not face any emergencies, but it is not in good technical condition. Contributions from the city and the Vysočina Region are only used for minor repairs.
In the next five years, the gym is expected to undergo a significant renovation - it will be insulated, all internal systems will be replaced, new sanitary facilities will be installed, access to the building will be resolved, and the interiors will be modernized. "We want the project to be evaluated by an architect and to propose any more extensive changes that would enhance the aesthetics of the building," Kotačka said.
