Prague – The 3D printer manufacturer Prusa Research has purchased the Štrasburk premises on Švábky Street in Palmovka. The price has not been disclosed. The company plans to move from Holešovice in Prague to a new headquarters within two to three years, and one of the considered locations is the unfinished New Palmovka building, which borders Štrasburk. The costs for the reconstruction of New Palmovka could range between 500 million and 1 billion crowns. This was stated today by representatives of the company to ČTK.

The area known as Štrasburk is part of the pentagon of land between Rustonka and Palmovka. It is bordered by U Rustonky and Sokolovská streets. In the past, it was home to one of the first tram depots in Prague.

Prusa Research currently needs approximately 15,000 m² for its operations and plans to double that in the future. The company currently employs 700 people and operates the largest 3D printing production in the world.

To the Prague City Hall, to which the land under the New Palmovka building is transferred by the Prague 8 district, Průša offered a project focused on ecological sustainability and openness to local residents. Not only production and office spaces could be created here, but also open spaces such as a public technological workshop, library, technological incubator, training hall, kindergarten, or gallery. Průša intends to maintain public tours of the 3D printer production.

"We want to participate in the development of the entire area and offer the city cooperation and partnership in this regard. We hope that the city hall will take advantage of our offer for a joint discussion about both sites simultaneously – that is, about Švábky and the unfinished Palmovka building. This is a unique opportunity to breathe life into this problematic area and find meaningful use for the deteriorating building," said Průša.

Prusa Research was founded in 2012 and is among the fastest-growing technology companies in the Czech Republic. In 2020, it achieved revenues of 2.17 billion crowns.
