Brno - The Mayor of Brno, Roman Onderka, wants the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) to revise the project associated with the relocation of the Brno train station. According to him, transportation engineers should take into account the comments outlined in the investment analysis commissioned by the city. The mayor initiated a meeting of all project partners due to the issue, stating that he wants it to take place as soon as possible, he told reporters today in Brno. The analysis was supposed to compare two versions of the reconstruction of the Brno railway junction. The risk that the project associated with the station's relocation will not be completed as planned was estimated at 30 percent. According to experts from Cityplan and ČVUT, the main concern is the potential increase in investment costs in the future. The main investor of the construction, namely SŽDC, should revise the project according to the mayor to reduce the risk to about 15 percent. The project to reconstruct the railway junction in Brno, associated with the relocation of the station nearly a kilometer to the south, was initiated by the previous Brno leadership led by the ODS. After the elections, when ODS moved to the opposition and the main critics of the relocation from the Green Party entered the coalition, Brno politicians began to reassess the project. The city council has not yet publicly disclosed its final position. According to the mayor, however, Brno's decision will only carry the weight of three billion crowns, which the city should invest in the project from its budget. The greater burden of financing lies with the state and SŽDC, which, according to the mayor, continues to prepare the original version. The total costs will exceed 20 billion crowns. Commissioning an analysis to compare both variants, according to the mayor, was not wasted money under these circumstances. "The analysis represents 3.5 million crowns worth of quality opinions," Onderka said, adding that the document will be important when the Czech Republic seeks funding for the project in Brussels. The comparison of the two investment variants holds weight for European officials, as they want to clearly see that the project, for which Brussels will contribute, is the best from a transportation standpoint and for the development of the city.
