The conversion of the former brewery in Kralupy will create a cultural center

Kralupy nad Vltavou - The transformation of the former brewery malting house in Kralupy nad Vltavou in the Mělník region will result in a cultural center at a cost of approximately 250 million crowns. The city council recently approved the announcement of a tender for the project, which will be based on a previously developed architectural study. Work could start in as little as two years. This was announced today by the city spokesperson Aleš Levý.

The cultural center will include a library, a museum, a conservatory, and a residence for children and youth. There will also be an apartment for the caretaker and commercial spaces that could be used as a café, restaurant, and microbrewery, which would recall the original purpose of the building. The city has around 150 million crowns available for the reconstruction, and it plans to save additional funds before starting the work, also considering loans or grants.

"The building is of course complicated, and the development of the project itself will not be easy at all. The object has numerous restrictions, and it is quite possible that during the implementation, we will have to resort to necessary demolition work. However, nowadays, all professional technologies are at a high level, including a wide selection of construction materials," said Kralupy Mayor Marek Czechmann (for STAN). According to him, the reconstruction of the building is feasible.

There was also the option of demolishing the structure and building a new one. "I am convinced that we are on the right path. The brewery building is the oldest preserved structure in the city center. I must admit that I would be very sorry if we simply flattened it," added Deputy Mayor Vojtěch Pohl (Kralupy Nová Vlna). However, if it later turned out that the reconstruction was significantly complicated or considerably more expensive than anticipated, the deputy mayor would be willing to change his stance. For this reason, the Kralupy councilors have resolved that all individual steps related to the project will be discussed by the city council, not "just" the city board.

The city continues its long-term renewal of the center, with the reconstruction of the brewery building being one of its key parts.
