Brussels/Prague - A grand fireworks display marked the end of the World Expo Expo'58, held 60 years ago on October 19, 1958, the first major world exhibition after World War II. It took place under the motto "Balance for a More Human World" and particularly emphasized two advancements from the recent past: atomic energy and space travel. Its centerpiece became the Atomium, a 110-meter high model of an atom, and it made history as one of the most famous world universal exhibitions. Over six months, it was visited by 42 million people.

Czechoslovakia drew attention with the architecture and interior of its pavilion, the restaurant of which was later moved to Letná in Prague. One of the attractions that attracted visitors was the international film showcase. Its main prize was awarded to the sci-fi film "The Death Ray" directed by Karel Zeman. At the Expo, Czechoslovakia ultimately achieved legendary success: in addition to 13 other awards, its exhibition received the highest award, the Golden Star, in the overall ranking.
