Prague - The Prague City Hall will modify parts of the Central Park in the Southwest City at Lužiny. Workers will reconstruct paths in the park and add features such as benches, lighting, and a picnic area. This was approved today by the Prague councilors during their meeting. The modifications will be carried out by the company Environmental Building for 36.2 million crowns excluding VAT. The work is expected to last until 2026.

The city hall has already modified parts of the park in the past. Now, it is set to add, for example, benches, public lighting, terraces, and docks by the Stodůlecký Stream or a picnic area. The city hall will also repair pedestrian paths and plant new greenery. The reconstruction also involves water management modifications, such as creating new water bodies, channeling rainwater into the stream bed, and making the Stodůlecký pond accessible for natural swimming.

According to the city hall, the reconstruction of the park will enable sports, recreational, and leisure activities in such a way that the space complements the residential complex of Southwest City and connects it as a single entity with the old housing of the original village of Stodůlky. A fully functional urban park is to be created, as stated in the approved document. The revitalization of the Stodůlecký Stream, new landscaping including the cleaning of existing vegetation, and the planting of new greenery will contribute, according to the city hall, to a healthier living environment.

Preparations for the park modifications began in 2006. Since then, workers have primarily made terrain modifications in the western and eastern parts, shaping the area, and have built paths with public lighting.
