Prague - The capital city is preparing a project for the renovation of the dilapidated Fuchs Café on Štvanice Island. The city has announced a tender for the development of the project, the winner of which still needs to be approved by the city council. In response to a query from ČTK, the spokesperson for the municipality, Vít Hofman, stated this. It is not yet clear when the repairs will begin; the contract for the project should be awarded later this year. The city also plans further modifications on Štvanice.
According to Hofman, the estimated value of the contract for the design documentation is 19 million crowns. "Based on the developed project documentation, there will be remediation and complete reconstruction of the building to preserve it for future generations. We also plan for its use as a leisure space for residents of Prague and visitors to the city," the spokesperson said. The functionalist café from the 1930s has been in a long-term state of disrepair.
The municipality is preparing a comprehensive revitalization of the neglected island between Karlín and Holešovice. In addition to the café's renovation, paths should be repaired, and picnic areas established. Trees have already been planted on the island, and new benches are in place. Vila Štvanice operates there, hosting festivals and theatrical productions.
There are also plans for the construction of a new footbridge, which will connect Holešovice with Karlín across Štvanice. The city organized an architectural competition for its design, the results of which were announced at the end of last year. The connection will complement the existing ferry, with the boarding point on the Holešovice side of the Vltava River located at Bubenské nábřeží in front of the entrance to the Prague Market, and in Karlín, it will lead to a bike path along the flood barrier.
