Prague - The Prague City Hall does not have the original architectural documentation of the Industrial Palace, the left wing of which was completely destroyed by fire in October. The City Hall now has to redraw the plans from a historical magazine as an emergency solution. However, both the authorities and the tenant refuse to take responsibility for the loss of documentation. This was reported by Nova television.
"The museum does not have the blueprints or the construction documentation," said Alice Tříšková, spokesperson for the National Technical Museum. "There is no documentation in the archives of the National Museum that pertains directly to the palace," stated Milena Běličová, head of the National Museum Archive.
The only document available to the City Hall, which contains the plans of the Exhibition Grounds, according to Cultural Councilor Milan Richter, are two magazines from 1890. "These plans will serve as a basis. That means architects will have to redraw these plans," Richter said. Consequences will need to be drawn if the original plans from the late 19th century are not found, he added. Officials, according to Nova, have one last hope that the sketches are among the frozen documents that were damaged by the flood in August 2002.
The fire at the Exhibition Grounds in Holesovice was most likely caused by a technical malfunction, according to the police. The fire broke out in one of the exhibition stalls that was part of the Pragodent dental technology fair. It was reported that flammable sprays intended for cleaning dental office equipment were present in the stall, which exploded during the fire. The left wing of the historic building was burned down, leaving only parts of the perimeter walls. After the fire, the City Hall claimed that an exact replica of the historic building would be constructed by the end of September 2010.
According to initial estimates, the fire destroyed property worth up to one billion crowns. The tenant - the company Incheba stated that the entire Exhibition Grounds complex was insured for 2.5 billion crowns.
