Prague - The Prague City Hall wants to open the Rothmayer Villa to the public, which it is currently purchasing from the current owner. The owner offered the city the Břevnov building with a garden for 12 million crowns. After the purchase, it will first be renovated. The Ministry of Culture promised a contribution for the reconstruction, councilor Milan Richter (ODS) told reporters today. The villa designed by architect Otto Rothmayer is, according to him, a very significant monument from the years 1928 and 1929. Rothmayer was also involved in the modern adaptations of the Castle, and the villa is in a similar architectural spirit. "We can say that it belongs to the collection of famous Prague villas," Richter stated. This includes, among others, the Bílek, Loos, and Trmal villas. The conditions of the purchase are, according to the councilor, exceptionally favorable. The price is official; the market price would be much higher. It also includes the interior furnishings of the building from the late 1920s. The current owner, Jan Rothmayer, has only one condition, which is that the villa be made accessible to the public, Richter noted. What all will be in the villa is not yet clear. The councilor could envision smaller exhibitions and concerts, for example, even in the garden.
