Prague - Prague 8 has submitted a proposal for the liquidation of the company Crispino Real Estate, which owns the dilapidated Palace Svět. The city hall stated this on its website. This was a response to the fact that the owner has not continued with the promised renovation of this monument. If the court sends the company into liquidation, another company could then become the owner, which would restore the monument, according to the city hall. The representative of the owner, Italian businessman Antonio Crispino, allegedly informed the city hall last week that he is postponing the renovation of the monument due to the economic crisis. The building will continue to deteriorate. The owner had promised the renovation at the beginning of this year. "From the owner's negotiations, we concluded that an agreement with him is essentially no longer possible, as he has not fulfilled any of his promises so far. For example, in February he promised us that at least a new facade would be on the building by the end of summer. He had enough time, yet he did nothing, except for possibly the demolition of an annex," stated Prague 8 councilor Matěj Fichtner (TOP 09). Prague 8 therefore filed a proposal for the liquidation of the Crispino Real Estate company with the court. "The reasons for filing the proposal are primarily based on the fact that the entry in the commercial register does not correspond to reality," Fichtner stated. Due to neglecting the care of the monument, the owner received a fine of 180,000 crowns from the Prague magistrate. The company appealed against the decision. Palace Svět was built in the 1930s by the builder František Havlena. The building is founded below the groundwater level in a lead bath. The complex consists of a residential and commercial building with two basements containing a cinema hall. On the first floor, there was a restaurant, café, and gaming room. The palace, made famous by writer Bohumil Hrabal, was damaged by a flood in 2002. Since 2003, it has been a cultural monument. Talks about renovations have been ongoing for five years; the city hall approved a reconstruction study in 2006. However, the owner did not start the repairs. The property owner claimed that he wants to reconstruct apartments in the building and create administrative spaces.
