Prague - The Prague 7 City Hall has announced a public tender for the reconstruction of the town hall building on U Průhonu Street. Martin Vokuš, the spokesperson for this district, informed ČTK today. The reconstruction is expected to be completed in the fall of next year. The current site on Captain Jaroš Embankment will have to be vacated by the town hall, as the building belongs to the state. The new building on U Průhonu was purchased by Prague 7 for 90 million crowns. "We are at the last stage of a very long journey. At its end, Prague 7 will have its own town hall building for the first time in 130 years since its establishment. We organized an exceptionally successful international architectural competition for its design, which was attended by 70 studios from around the world. I look forward to seeing the winning design move from paper to reality," said Mayor Jan Čižinský (KDU-ČSL/Trojkoalice).
The design of the new town hall was proposed by the Atelier bod architekti company based on their victory in the international architectural competition. The building will undergo extensive construction modifications, with only the load-bearing structure being preserved from its current form. The projected costs range between 150 and 160 million crowns, and the exact amount will be known only after the competition is completed. Interested parties can apply for the tender until July 14, 2017.
The town hall has been addressing the relocation for several years, and the selection of a new headquarters has been accompanied by many complications. The opposition in the previous electoral term accused the then-city councilors of planning an overpriced investment. Initially, the town hall was supposed to cost a billion crowns. A referendum on the town hall took place in Prague 7 in January 2013 based on a decision by the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS).
