Prague - Prague 5 is preparing investments amounting to tens of millions of crowns this year and in the coming years in the Barrandov housing estate. Trnkovo and Tilleho squares are to be repaired, pedestrian zones are planned, and renovations of elementary schools and their sports facilities are also in the works. Radek Klíma (TOP 09), the mayor of Prague 5, told ČTK. According to Klíma, the Barrandov housing estate currently lacks infrastructure and public facilities. The municipality wants to change that. "For a city of twenty thousand people, there is one polyclinic, two schools, minimum sports facilities, and no park. We would like to develop Barrandov into an independent city, where people wouldn't just come to sleep but would also have places to go with their children, where they can spend their free time," said Klíma. Therefore, the municipality is preparing the renovation of Trnkovo, Chaplinovo, and Tilleho squares, and according to Klíma, green areas should be restored and pedestrian zones reconstructed. The city district estimates the costs at more than 40 million crowns according to this year's approved budget. According to Klíma, Prague 5 also has preparations for the reconstruction of elementary schools on Chaplinovo Square and in V Remízku street. Besides insulation, the school in V Remízku could also see the construction of a squash sports hall. Several other sports facilities are also expected to be renovated for several million crowns. In the future, the municipality wants to build a new park in the Barrandov housing estate, which should be created instead of a field near the current tram terminus. To this end, they have requested a change in the zoning plan from the magistrate. The park could also include a cable car to Nové Butovice. According to Klíma, the municipality is also trying to negotiate with developers who plan further construction of apartment buildings in Barrandov. Large areas in this area are owned by companies such as Finep and Ekospol, which according to their websites are currently planning more than two hundred new apartments. Finep has already built around a thousand apartments in Barrandov in previous years. "We are negotiating with them to ensure that their construction is somewhat relaxed, so that there are relaxation areas, playgrounds, sports facilities, and services between the buildings. In the zoning procedures, we will require this infrastructure," added Klíma. The panel housing estate was built in Barrandov in the 1980s. The development linked on the west to the original film studios and villa district. The estate is separated from the original Barrandov by a four-lane arterial road to Barrandov, which connects to the Barrandov Bridge. In 2003, a tram line connected the estate to the city center.
