Prague - Barrandov and Nové Butovice could be connected in the future by a cable car. This arises from the plans of Prague 5. The construction of a two-kilometer cable car would cost about 500 million crowns and could transport up to 550 people per hour. It is not yet clear who would finance the construction. The district is currently requesting a change in the zoning plan that would allow the construction of the cable car. Prague 13 also agrees with the intention and the necessary change in the zoning plan.

On the Barrandov side, the cable car would start at the final tram stop, and on the Butovice side, it would begin at a shopping center. The cables on which the cabins would move would be supported by three towers - in addition to the starting and ending towers, there would be one tower in the middle. It would be located outside the protective zone of Prokopské Valley. Two cabins, which would travel opposite each other, would cover the distance of 2062 meters in five minutes. Currently, the journey from Barrandov to Butovice by public transport takes about 25 minutes.
Each cabin could accommodate up to 60 passengers. The elevation is estimated at 28 meters, and the height of the towers is between 32 to 45 meters, so that the cable car does not encroach into Prokopské Valley. After the approval of the change in the zoning plan and the issuance of the necessary permits, the district still anticipates an additional two to three years for the actual construction.
The cable car would be part of the public transport system. "We consulted this with Ropid. An additional connection to buses to Motol and the extended route of metro line A could also be interesting," said Elena Lacinová, an architect from Prague 5's office to ČTK. According to Lacinová, the connection between the two housing estates has been discussed for at least 15 years, and there were previously considerations about bridging Prokopské Valley.
The original intention, according to Lacinová, was to transform an old orchard in Barrandov into a modern park for the recreation of the residents of the housing estate. During the preparation of the study, the designers came up with the idea of building a cable car. However, according to Lacinová, the priority of the district is still to establish the park, for which the city hall also wants to purchase land from private owners.
The concept of the new zoning plan, which the new leadership of the capital city wants to halt, also included another cable car in the area of Prague 5. It was supposed to run from the Radlická metro station to Dívčí hrady. However, according to Lacinová, this idea has been abandoned. The cable car would only make sense in this location if a university campus were to be built at Dívčí hrady. Additionally, the owners of the affected land did not agree with the cable car.
