Prague – Prague 3 plans to build municipal apartments in the unfinished residential block near the area of the Žižkov Freight Station. A senior day care center could also be established there. As stated in the municipal council's resolution, the city hall will announce an architectural competition for the design of the construction. Private developers are planning to build a new district in the neighboring area of the former station.
The unfinished block is located between Na Viktorce and U Staré cihelny streets, east of the station's area. "One of the owners of neighboring lands pointed out the given plots before 2018, stating that he would like to purchase them or build a residential building here in the form of a PPP (public-private partnership)," is stated in the document approved by the councilors.
According to the document, an apartment building with four or more above-ground floors could be built on the plots, and the ground floor could host a senior day care center, which would also utilize the inner courtyard. The municipal district is now preparing the assignment for the architectural competition based on the council's decision, which it aims to announce by the end of October this year.
In the neighboring area of the Žižkov Freight Station, major residential construction is planned by companies such as Central Group, Penta Investment, Sekyra Group, or Finep. Up to 15,000 people should live in the new district. Central Group is already starting the construction of the first buildings, but a building ban applies to most of the territory. This can only be lifted after the approval of the change in the urban plan, which the city councilors are expected to vote on this year. The shape of the change and the planned district does not sit well with some local residents, who have drawn up a petition against it.
